The following poems were written by me for my daughter on her Birthdays.
THE SWEETEST BABE If God had said for me to choose The sweetest babe in heaven The one that had the nicest smile And needed lots of lovin’ The one whose heart would grow To be the kindest one I knew I could have searched all heaven Dear And would still have chosen you.
WHAT IS A DAUGHTER ? What is a daughter? So many things, I cannot say She’s ” Mom loan me a dollar just till payday She’s dirty blue jeans, that are always too long She’s an old folk guitar Singing a way out song. She’s smiles and dimples And everything fine But most of all …She’s mine.
MY DAUGHTER, A BLESSING Each passing year reminds me How blessed I’ve always been To have you for a daughter And best of all my friend You always seem to know The thoughtful things to do And being kind just seems to come Quite naturally to you. I look forward to the time we spend together It means so very much you see Just to have someone to talk to Or share a laugh with me. Each night I ask the Lord to keep you in his care And if upon my life’s page there are any blessings there To send them every one to you and all I have in store For you see my darling daughter That’s what I saved them for.
CHILDHOOD MEMORIES Each time your Birthday comes along The memories go rushing by Like the times we sang “Go home said the man in the moon” and “Rocky Mountain High”. We knew that we weren’t perfect but we really didn’t care. For who cared about perfection When we knew the love was there. There were the pictures that you drew for me I treasure them yet today All memories in which we shared That time can never take away. So when at last the good Lord calls me home And looks up my page of life to see The things for which I am judged both right and wrong and how it is I’ll spend eternity Tis then He’ll find my faults a page will fill and all the times I failed to do His will But when he turns the page to see the good I had to do there will be but one great moment there That’s the day that I had you.
