Knit a pair of booties that will stay on baby’s feet. You will need 1 ounce baby yarn, a size 5 steel crochet hook and either number 3 or 4 standard knitting needles. Contrasting color may be used for the instep stitches and eyelet row.
Starting at sole seam, cast on 40 sts.
Row 1: K1, inc 1 , k 16, inc1, k 2 inc 1, k 16, inc 1, k 1-44sts.
Rows 2,4,6,8 and 10: K
Row 3: K1,inc 1, k17,inc1,k 4, inc1 k 17 inc 1, k 1-48 sts.
Row 5: K1, inc 1,k 18, inc1, k 6, inc1, k 18, inc1, k 1-52 sts.
Row 7: K 21, inc 1, k 8, inc 1, k 21-54 sts.
Row 9: K 21 inc 1, k 10, inc 1, k 21-56 sts.
Row 11: K 21, inc 1, k 12, inc 1, k 21-58 sts.
K next 6 rows.
INSTEP: K 34, k 2 tog turn, K 11, k 2 tog, turn. Continue in this manner until 34 sts remain, k to end.
K 1 row
EYELET ROW: *K 2, k 2 tog, yo, repeat from* ending with k 2,
P 1 row.
k 2, inc. in next and every 5th st. across row-41 sts.
PATTERN: *K3, P1, repeat from * ending with k1.
Continue in this matter for 2 1/2 inches. Bind off.and sew seam.
CHAIN: ch 75 to 80 sl st fasten off.
Weave through eyelet row.
Attach small pompoms to end of chain. Fold top of bootie over like an anklet.
